The Cavett Kids Story
What started as a dream by founder Danny Cavett, has evolved into six camps serving children with various life-threatening and chronic illnesses. Each year, the lives of 12,000 children and their families are enhanced by our annual camps and ongoing programs.
After finishing a dual Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and Art Therapy at Southwestern College in Santa Fe, New Mexico I began my journey with Cavett Kids in the spring of 2012 when I joined the organization as an Intern providing Art Therapy services through our Diversionary Play program. My passion for the organization quickly grew as I began getting to know these amazing Cavett Kids. Fast forward to February 2018 when I moved into the role of Executive Director and my heart for these amazing kids has only grown deeper. When you invest not just your dollars but your time and energy in these children it’s a truly life-changing experience for both. I’m blessed to be part of the Cavett Kids Family and I hope you will be, too.
I joined the Cavett Kids Team as the Camp Director in January of 2019. Before joining the Cavett Kids Foundation, I worked with young people at camps and after school programs across Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Arizona. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Sports Management from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and I am currently finishing a Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Leadership at Oklahoma City University. I am thrilled to be working with the campers that Cavett Kids serves and am passionate about making camp opportunities available to all young people.
I joined the Cavett Kids Team after graduating from the University of Oklahoma where I achieved a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and a minor in Non-profit Organizational Management. Over the years I have always enjoyed my volunteer and internship opportunities with great non-profits such as JDRF and the Mercy Health Foundation but was quickly drawn to the mission of Cavett Kids. I have a strong personal connection to the mission as I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was just 8 years old. I feel motivated to help children in similar situations and feel blessed to be part of the Cavett Kids team. I am passionate about the work of Cavett Kids and hope to inspire kids like myself to not just simply survive, but to thrive!
In the summer of 2018 I was assigned to assist on a special project with the Cavett Kids Foundation and simply fell in love with the mission of the organization. I joined part-time with the organization and appreciate how it affords me some flexibility to do the kind of work I enjoy. I truly love being part of the Cavett Kids team and giving back to such a great cause! I have a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and a Master’s Degree in Business from Strayer University. I have over 25 years of accounting experience working in various industries and countries. When I’m not working I love to read, swim, work in the yard, make crafts, travel and spend time with my family, friends and my dog, Daisy.

The Furry Staff
I’m a cuddly Golden Retriever and certified Therapy Dog working with the Cavett Kids Foundation three days a week since August of 2015. I was born on June 16th, 2014 in Bowie, Texas at Reading Retrievers. I really love my job and enjoy a good scratch! When I’m not bringing smiles to the kiddos I enjoy watching the OKC Thunder, playing fetch, riding in our boat and swimming no matter what temperature it is outside.
I’m a sweet Golden Retriever with the softest teddy-bear fluff you can find. I work every Wednesday morning with the Cavett Kids Foundation visiting all the pediatric clinics of OU Children’s Physicians. When I’m not working, I enjoy walks, treats, relaxing at home and sneaking a nap on the human bed when Mom’s not looking.
I’m a mix-breed rescue dog with the best personality around. I love belly scratches, car rides, adventures and I especially love those tasty animal crackers! I enjoy visiting the kids at the Jimmy Everest Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders and I also love visiting the campers at Camp Cavett. Those Cavett Kids give me the best hugs!
I’m the newest addition to the Cavett Kids Therapy Dog crew! I’m a cute Golden Doodle named Pete and I love spreading joy and hugs to all the patients. I visit the clinics of OU Children’s Physicians every month and love to cuddle with all the sweet patients and family members. If you see me, be sure to give me a big hug!
I was the first ever Therapy Dog to begin working with Cavett Kids so I guess you could say I’m the real O.G. I started in April of 2013 visiting patients every Wednesday morning and worked every Wednesday until I crossed the Rainbow Bridge on July of 2018. I was known as the “gentle giant” and enjoyed all the pets and attention from both the patients and the staff. I never passed up a good belly rub or a toy with a squeaker.
