The Cavett Kids Story
What started as a dream by founder Danny Cavett, has evolved into eight camps serving children and youth with various life-threatening and chronic illnesses. Each year, the lives of 20,000 children and their families are enhanced by our annual camps and programs.
Since 1997 Cavett Kids has provided FREE camps, programs, and support for children and youth battling life-threatening illnesses. We strive to develop Character, Coping and Connection while improving the lives of over 20,000 children each year and providing a safe place for children to feel "normal" and accepted while also receiving life-saving medical care.
Our Team
The Cavett Kids Foundation began as a passion project for Danny Cavett when he started his work as a Chaplain at OU Health in 1977. Danny recognized that while advancements in medicine were helping children live longer with their illnesses, they often struggled to truly thrive in life. That realization sparked the beginning of something life changing.
In 1978, Danny, along with the Pediatric Dialysis Team, organized the first-ever "Kamp Kidney" for children battling kidney disease. While the camp was fun, he quickly realized it needed to be more than just an enjoyable experience—it needed to teach kids valuable life skills while fostering connection and resilience. From that moment on, he committed to creating camps that empower, educate, and uplift children facing chronic and life-threatening illnesses. Today, Danny has retired after 45 dedicated years as Director of Pastoral Care at OU Health, however he remains an active force in the Cavett Kids Foundation, serving as a teacher and mentor at camps, attending events, and contributing to planning committees to ensure this mission continues to make a lasting impact.
After earning my bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University and a dual master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and Art Therapy from Southwestern College in Santa Fe, New Mexico, I began my journey with Cavett Kids Foundation in the spring of 2012 as an intern, providing Art Therapy and Counseling services through our Diversionary Play program. From day one, I was deeply inspired by the resilience and spirit of these incredible kids, and my passion for the organization only grew stronger. My background in mental health, creative therapy, and nonprofit service has allowed me to connect with children on a deeper level, helping them develop coping skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging despite the challenges they face.
In February 2018, I stepped into the role of Executive Director, and my commitment to this mission has only deepened. With experience in program development, fundraising, and strategic leadership, I work to ensure Cavett Kids continues to provide life-changing experiences, medical support, and emotional growth opportunities for every child we serve. When you invest not just your financial resources but also your time and energy in these children, it becomes a truly transformational experience—for them and for you. I feel incredibly blessed to be part of the Cavett Kids family, and I hope you will, too.
As Programs Director for the Cavett Kids Foundation, I bring over a decade of experience in youth development, outreach, and housing programs. My passion lies in creating safe, supportive environments, empowering vulnerable populations with resources, community, and encouragement to thrive. Before joining Cavett Kids, I served as Camp Director for Camp Brotherhood in Las Vegas and worked extensively in youth services, including leading outreach teams and managing shelters for homeless youth and families. My diverse background equips me to develop impactful programs, build strong community partnerships, and create meaningful experiences for the children and families we serve.
Originally from Las Vegas, I bring warmth and energy to my role, building lasting connections with campers, families, and volunteers. I am deeply committed to Cavett Kids’ mission of fostering character, coping skills, and connection, ensuring that every child feels seen, supported, and empowered. Whether I’m cheering on a camper as they conquer a challenge or planning the next unforgettable experience, I approach everything I do with enthusiasm, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to making a difference.

The Furry Staff
I’m a cuddly Golden Retriever and certified Therapy Dog working with the Cavett Kids Foundation three days a week since August of 2015. I was born on June 16th, 2014 in Bowie, Texas at Reading Retrievers. I really love my job and enjoy a good scratch! When I’m not bringing smiles to the kiddos I enjoy watching the OKC Thunder, playing fetch, riding in our boat and swimming no matter what temperature it is outside.
I’m a fluffy girl Golden Retriever and certified Therapy Dog working with Cavett Kids. I was born on October 26, 2017 at Reading Retrievers in Bowie, TX. I love to steal my brother Finn’s toys, eat treats, take naps, swim and get belly rubs! My nickname is “Chunky Monkey” because I really, really love treats!
